| Racers Crossing Country |
The Racer Cross Country team performed well during the Aug. 28 Cameron Meet.
The boys' team placed third out of a total of 14 teams and 108 runners, said head coach Teresa Johnston. The ladies took the second place spot competing against 13 teams, also with a total of 108 runners.

The Racers took on Purcell and Elgin during last week's scrimmage at Racer Stadium. The team and coaches had a chance to get a feel for the new turf and to test their metal during the pre-season challenge.

A large crane moved the Racer scoreboard last Monday. The keeper of the stats is being relocated to the south end of the field. This move is to make room for a new set of bleachers for the Racer Band.

| Newcastle, OU Alum Jeremy Hess to be honored |
It's not often that a football player desires a prestigious academic award more than a national championship ring, but that was the case for Jeremy Hess.
Hess, a 1998 Newcastle High graduate and standout football player, played wide receiver, fullback, free safety and long snapper for the Racers, where he all-stated his senior year.

| August 20 deadline for bonus youth deer hunts |
Beginning deer hunters have a unique opportunity to participate in two youth antlerless deer hunts that will take place on private land in Alfalfa and Osage Counties and are scheduled for October and January.
This year 22 youth will be drawn to receive one of the bonus private lands antlerless deer gun permits.
