The longstanding Newcastle Drug Store sign has been at least partially removed from the parking lot of Main Street Florist.
âIt was a landmark. It was a really cool looking antique,â Main Street Florist owner Farah Payton-Snider, said. âYouâd tell people to look for that sign and it would direct them into our building.â
Payton-Snider said she was upset by the signâs fate.
âIt was not properly taken apart,â she said. âThere was glass shattered and we spent part of the morning cleaning up.â
Many members of the Newcastle community also expressed dismay after she posted pictures of the dismantled sign on Facebook, Payton-Snider said.
Farmers Insurance agent Rick Roberts rents an office in the same building and took down the sign.
Roberts was unavailable for comment but his Office Manager Rebecca Reames said the owner of the building approved the signâs removal.
âWe wanted to use the pole [the sign] was on and he said that was okay,â Reames said.
Reames explained why the sign was dismantled...
